The Senses

Here are some interesting facts that we found out about the senses:
  • more than half of the knowledge in the mind has been learned from the eyes
  • blue eyes are the most sensitive to light of all eye colours
  • the lips are one of the most sensitive parts of the body
  • cats don't have nine lives but they do have better balance than humans - they react 4 times faster
  • the tongue is made of muscle
  • an eyeball is almost a perfect circle shape
  • taste buds are almost too small to see
  • when you move your jaw, earwax loosens in your ear
  • in the sensitive skin of your fingertips there are 50-100 micro-senses in an area the size of a freckle
  • the iris can be blue, green, grey or brown. Blue eyes have the least melanin and are more sensitive to light
  • every second your brain receives over a million signals to help you balance
  • our taste buds look like tiny oranges
  • the chameleon's tongue is longer than its body
  • stroking pets helps to relax you
  • the ear drum is about the size of a nail
  • people with smaller eye balls have good sight
  • pain may be painful but it is also useful because it warns the body of damage
  • horrible smells warn us of rot indicating germs
  • a young person has a total of about 10,000 taste buds
