Trip Up To Taupo Poem

On Friday we drove up to Taupo
We saw cows and sheep on the way
We played in the snow in the mountains
It was an extremely fun day

On Saturday I lined up for North Islands
To compete in the under 12 race
When the gun made a very big BANG!
We set off at a very fast pace

There was only one girl in front of me
And another one close behind
She chased me down to the finish
But that big silver medal was mine.

Cross Country by Brandon

Go! Go! Go!.

It was the day of the cross-country and everyone was so excited and bored at the same time, the whole school was in the hall. Mr.Westphall and Mr.O,Carrol stood and talked about the rules and blah! Blah! Blah! All I could hear was the school moaning and groaning so all I thought about was please get this over with very very fast. Finally the year 7 boys got up and walked out of the hall. I wasn't scared or nervous because I'd done it 6 times already.

As we lined up I heard the horn and I was off. For a while I slowed down to the back of the year 7s so I could jog the whole race. As I was doing it I almost tripped up but I just kept my balance. Just when I finished the block part of the race my heart was getting so puffed out I nearly had a heart attack. When I ran to the end of the tunnel I was nearly at the end of the race. I ran through the tunnel. I saw Jesse so I caught up with him and we sprinted to the finish. Although I came 80th it was a great feeling WHOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!

Running Makes Me Happy by Jess

Sweat dripping down my red burning face, water splashing on my butt, my heart is pounding and my throat is aching. Mud everywhere on my pants and in my hair. My stitch is getting worse but I'm almost there. I need to stop but it's too late now becaused I'm only 400 metres from the finish line. As I turn the corner I nearly fall over but luckily my muddy spikes keep me on the soaking green grass.

As I start to sprint my legs start hurting but I'm there, I'm finished. It was all worth doing.

We are learning to write a descriptive paragraph using adjectives.

Running by Gus

Bouncing up and down, the wind rushing in my face. Speeding down the hill...My blood boiling and my legs on fire. My heart beats faster and faster still, legs screaming to stop. Lungs expanding like a balloon. I speed around the corner...CRASH!!

We are learning to write a descriptive paragraph using descriptive adjectives.

Hemisha's scary story

Bella and I looked at the scary house, it looked like a horror movie. It had overgrown gardens, old rusty sheds and cracked paint. The door screeched open by itself. A breeze floated above us, "Ahhh ghost!". Suddenly an old overweight man was smiling at us...

Running by Gus

Bouncing up and down, the wind rushing in my face. Speeding down the hill... My blood boiling and my legs on fire. My heart beats faster and faster still, legs screaming to stop. Lungs expand like a balloon .I speed around the corner CRASH!...

We had to explain how we felt when we were running using descriptive language.

My Run by Josh

We are learning to write a descriptive paragraph using adjectives.

"On your mark, get set..." I murmured to myself. "Go!" I accidently said aloud. At first it was slow as I walked around the first bend, but once I got to the end of the bend, I got into it. I sped around the second bend, then around the third bend and "holy..." (a long road). The footpath was newly paved, so I had to watch out for wet concrete. As I dodged the cones, I realised that I was near the mobil station.

When I got to the mobil station, I crossed the crossing and went up main drive to the hospital. I got to a cross road, my skin saturated with sweat. I passed the hospital,my blood was boiling, but when I got to Kenepuru Drive, I knew I had finally reached my goal. Home....

Cross Country by Kyle

BANG! The load sound of the starting gun starts the cross country.
I am near the back so I speed up. Sweat starts running down my face like a waterful.
My heart is pounding faster and faster, it feels like my heart is going to smash though my chest.
I'm nearly at the top of the hill, keep going I tell myself. My legs are dying. Every metre I gain towards the finsh line. my lungs are pumping as much air as they can handle. They are about to burst!!
Nearly there, I speed past people to the end.

We had to write a story about running that including lots of descriptive language.

CHORES by Jess

Chores! Chores! Chores!
Chores are boring! Scrubbing toilets, cleaning sinks and washing the dog takes up alot of my time and are not FUN at all.Why can't parents do that stuff? They've lived most of their lives and had their fun. Kids need to make the most of it NOW!

Parents don't know how boring chores are! These days they're as boring as watching a snail sprint 100 metres or watching a test match all day. But worst of all they take FOREVER! The only reason I do them is because I get money for doing them. When I get enough money to by a X-Box 360 I'm stopping...that is till I want to buy something else.

WALT: choose an interesting sentence to start a story and include at least 2 similes.

India's scary 57 word story

I got dared so I had to do it.The skeleton was like a grey figurine. He pulled me under."Ahhhhh!"I knew that would happen,I shouldn't have picked dare.I had to stick a knife into a ghostly grave. The police found me 3 days ago.Was I dead?"Ahhhhh!"I screamed and then...
I hoped you liked my story!!!!!

Danni Tea's scary 63 word story

The wind was howling the chimes chiming , I stood there in the
dark with candle lights flickering. Looking in the mirror, getting ready to chant 6 words. The silence in the bathroom gave me the chills. Suddenly out of nowhere appeared a lady covered in fresh blood that dripped down her face. I screamed as she came after me and then...

First week at school!

In Room 1 this week we have been getting to know each other and getting to know how TIS works. We have started looking at the treaty and are beginning to understand how the norms work and what caring, trust, respect, honesty and protection will look like in Room 1.

Next week we will be doing some team building exercises as a whole group to really start to develop the relationships and build up trust within the class.

Our journey to come up with a learning definition for the class has led to some interesting dialogue around what is learning. One group came up with the catch phrase 'Don't be afraid to say yes to success'!
